Directed by Shawn Levy, this futuristic adventure stars Hugh Jackman and Evangeline Lilly. Set in 2020, where robot boxing has become the norm, the film tells the story of Charlie Kenton (Jackman), a former boxer and current struggling robot fighter, who learns that his ex-girlfriend recently died, and that he must sign over custody of his long-lost 11-year-old son Max (Dakota Goyo) to the child's aunt (Hope Davis). Desperate for money, Kenton strikes a secret deal with Max's wealthy uncle (James Rebhorn) that involves looking after Max until the end of the summer in exchange for 100,000 dollars. Reluctantly, Kenton takes Max on the road with him, but repeatedly experiences losses with his robots. In a junkyard, Max stumbles across an old robot named Atom, and discovers that it might be a game-changer. A very formulaic "popcorn flick," it is mildly enjoyable. Although nothing you should have spent your money on going to the theatre to see, but it is entertaining nevertheless, aided by Dakota Goyo's cute charm.
Should you see it? Sure, why not?
