Film Review -- Warrior

This Gavin O'Connor film stars Tom Hardy, Joel Edgerton, and Nick Nolte. Brendan Conlon (Edgerton) is a former MMA fighter who is now a physics teacher and family man, struggling to make ends meet. His estranged brother, Tommy (Hardy), a former marine who went AWOL, is also a former MMA fighter -- but he was the superstar, and Brendan was the underdog. Tommy enlists the help of his alcoholic father (Nolte, who is up for an Best Supporting Actor Oscar) to train him for SPARTA, the biggest MMA tournament in the world. Little does he know that Brendan is also making his comeback at SPARTA, in a last-ditch attempt to win money to save his home from foreclosure. Soon the brothers find themselves in a crash course towards a very climactic final fight. The film, being a sports movie, is formulaic and has its limitations, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. More dynamic than most films about fighting, the acting is great also, from Hardy especially. Overall, it is a poignant and entertaining film.
